IIT-JEE Mathematics: Important topics and sub-topics
Mathematics is supposed to be more difficult that Physics and Chemistry. Students should spend a few seconds to decide the quickest way of attempting a particular question. If diagrams are important to have an insight into the question, it should definitely be included.
Marks wise break-up for the topics
Algebra | 28 per cent |
Differential Calulus | 18 per cent |
Two Dimensional Coordinate Geometry | 22 per cent |
Integral Calculus | 17 per cent |
Trigonometry | 5 per cent |
Three dimensional Geometry | 6 per cent |
Vectors | 4 per cent |
The following sub topics have high probability of appearing in the exam:
- 2D Geametry – Locus problems on circles/straight lines
- 2D Geometry – conic sections: Parabola, Ellipse
- 3D Geometry – Straight line in symmetric form, Plane (Concept based questions will be there)
- Vectors – vector product and scalar product
- Algebra – Complex Numbers: Geometry and locus related problems, Theory of equations, Probability
- Trigonometry – Properties of triangle
- Trigonometry – Inverse trigonometric functions
- Differential Calculus – Applications of derivatives, monotonicity
- Integral Calculus – Differential Equations Evalution
