IIT-JEE Physics Tips for IIT JEE 2009
Pattern for the JEE 2009 in physics is expected to be similar to that in 2008, says Saurabh Kumar
1. Pattern for the JEE 2009 is expected to be similar to that in 2008. However, following may be the marks-wise breakup for topics: Topic Marks Measurements & errors 5% Mechanics 30% Waves & Sound 7% Heat & Thermodynamics 8% Electricity & Magnetism 25% Optics 10% Modern Physics 15%
2. While all topics are important, based on analysis of past years’ papers, following sub-topics have a higher probability of figuring in the paper:
Topic | Sub-topic | Probability |
Measurements | Vernier Calipers & Searls appratus | High |
Kinematics | Relative Velocity, Projectiles | High |
Properties of Matter | Surface Tension, Viscosity | High |
Waves Resonance | Column, Organ Pipes | High |
Thermal Physics | Heat Transfer, Newton’s Law of Cooling | High |
Electrostatics | Field, Capacitors | High |
Electric Current | Kirchoff’s Laws | High |
Magnetism | Magnetic Field due to Current & torque | High |
EMI, AC | AC Circuit | High |
Optics | Young’s Double Slit Experiment | High |
Modern Physics | Photoelectric Effect, X-Rays | High |
3. Students must not try to learn new things at this stage. They should try to consolidate whatever they already know. In the paper a score of about 40% or 45% will be good enough.
4. Since the pattern will be new, students must be prepared to face any type of questions. However, irrespective of the question type, these will test the understanding and ability to apply basic knowledge.
